Habits Diabetes Coach (“Habits”) is a diabetes management app designed for those who are diagnosed with prediabetes, starting insulin treatment or diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
The team behind Habits wanted to create more than just a diabetes logbook. After extensive research and interactions with a myriad of diabetes patients, the team understood that many diabetes patients struggle with food choices and getting enough activity in their day.
To tackle these issues, Habits evolved from a simple diabetes logbook to a comprehensive diabetes management app which helps diabetics achieve moderate weight loss and lifestyle changes to prevent and delay diabetes development.
Habits has digitized the landmark Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), a paper- based, tracking and recording study, which found that a moderate weight loss of 7% can help to control diabetes.
To fit the needs of today’s fast paced lifestyle, diabetes patients can use the app to record and track their food, blood glucose levels, daily activity, medication and more on the go. These records can also be shared with the doctor via email through Habits.
Apart from basic tracking, Habits incorporates lessons from the DPP, which are shared with the user via a diabetes coach.
Habits users receive daily tips and messages, such as healthy recipes, exercises ideas and more, on weight loss strategies related to diet and exercise along with gentle nudges to help them through the weight loss process. The coach is available to answer any questions users have and usually replies within hours.
The Habits team believes that it’s never too late to take control of your health and the aim is to simplify the development of this habit, with just a smartphone.
